Gloss Finish

Anti-slip epoxy floor coating

For wet rooms, staircase, or public spaces such as locker rooms or foot traffic areas. Anti-slip aggregate is added to the final coat to achieve a satin finish and slip-resistant surface to ensure the floors have traction.

Satin Finish

Gloss (smooth glass effect finish)

Looks beautiful, but is more susceptible to scratches comparing to satin finishes.

Matt Finish

Satin or matt

Looks appealing and gives good protection to the design coat, adding scratch resistance to the whole epoxy coating system

The Process Explained

The process of epoxy flooring installation is relatively straight forward. However, it needs a professional to achieve a seamless high specification finish.

Step 1: Preparation

Firstly, we mechanically prepare the surface by grinding and vacuuming the area. Surfaces with oil patches will need chemical cleaning.

Step 2: Priming and filling

We use a suitable epoxy primer to give your floor a better adhesion to the substrate.

Step 3: Mix epoxy coating

Following the manufacturer’s instruction in this step, we use a mixing paddle attached to a high-speed electric drill. This should take two minutes until the mixture is a single colour.

Step 4: Applying the first coat of epoxy paint

Here, also following the manufacturer’s instructions closely, we apply the first coat with good quality roller to the concrete slab or other stable substrates. Roll the coat front to back (vertical), section to section, and then left to right (horizontal).

Step 5: Apply final coat

After 12 hours of drying, we can apply the second coat. With clean tools, we roller, or trowel apply the second coat, or the design coat. The application is fast due to the reduced pot life for each epoxy pot.

Where should you use Epoxy?

One of the top advantages of epoxy is its ability to be customised to meet any of your flooring needs ranging from residential to commercial and industrial applications. The industrial epoxy flooring options at 3D Royals Floors UK come in various forms, styles, patterns, and colours to suit any interior design. We can install epoxy for your:

It is hard-wearing ideal for high traffic areas as well as households with pets. For UV stability, a metallic finish is recommended. If a plain colour or Concrete Look is required, you should go for a PU resin finish.

Epoxy Flooring Alternatives

When shopping around for a floor for your commercial workshop, home, garage, business etc., you may easily get overwhelmed with the different available options. The top two floor types you're likely to encounter are epoxy floors and tiles. Others are stained concrete and polished concrete, vinyl flooring, and PU flooring.

Epoxy Flooring Vs Tiles

Depending on your needs, you may be wondering, is epoxy flooring better than tiles? Are you considering ceramic tiles? Think again. While tiles are common, epoxy coated floors might be your best option if you’re looking for a seamless, durable, easy to clean, and heavy-duty solution.

Unlike tile floors with grout lines capable of collecting germs, smooth epoxy systems are easy to clean and maintain.

Our 100% solid epoxy is scratch-resistant, very sturdy, and water is unlikely to penetrate the topcoat. Tiles are susceptible to chip and crack.

Epoxy floor coatings are highly customisable, have bespoke designs, unlike tiles which are expensive to customise.

Almost any colour can be created with epoxy coating and finally giving a luxurious feel to your home.

Epoxy floors can be laid on top of Underfloor heating as they are designed to be flexible, expanding and contracting with the changing weather conditions, unlike tiles that become cold in the winter.

Epoxy Flooring Vs Polished Concrete

Unlike epoxy systems which can be water permeable, polished concrete is prone to moisture penetration, and therefore the growth of mould and mildew is probable.

Epoxy Flooring Vs PU Flooring

PU or polyurethane flooring is a durable option, capable of resisting extreme temperature changes but expensive as compared to epoxy flooring. If a UV finish is not required, then epoxy can replace the polyurethane finishes in workshops, garages or commercial kitchens.

Epoxy Flooring Vs Vinyl Flooring

Epoxy flooring reigns supreme than vinyl as it is tougher, has a longer lifespan, is easier to maintain and clean, and is safer than vinyl flooring.

Epoxy Flooring Vs Stained Concrete

Stone epoxy coating and stained concrete are popular flooring options for porches, garages, and commercial environments. Both have an aesthetic appeal, are durable and affordable. However, the stained concrete’s sealant will likely wear down over time. You will need to get the staining resealed, which could prove expensive. Applying a 2 mm epoxy coating may be a more cost effective solution for long term.
