THE EPOXY PROCESS, EXPLAINED

EPOXY INSTALLATION

The process of epoxy flooring installation is relatively straight forward. However, it needs a professional to achieve a seamless high specification finish.

1. PREPARATION

Firstly, we mechanically prepare the surface by grinding and vacuuming the area. Surfaces with oil patches will need chemical cleaning.

2. PRIMING & FILLING

We use a suitable epoxy primer to give your floor a better adhesion to the substrate.

3. MIX EPOXY COATING

Following the manufacturer’s instruction in this step, we use a mixing paddle attached to a high-speed electric drill. This should take two minutes until the mixture is a single colour.

4. APPLYING FIRST COAT

Here, also following the manufacturer’s instructions closely, we apply the first coat with good quality roller to the concrete slab or other stable substrates. Roll the coat front to back (vertical), section to section, and then left to right (horizontal).

5. APPLY FINAL COAT

After 12 hours of drying, we can apply the second coat. With clean tools, we roller, or trowel apply the second coat, or the design coat. The application is fast due to the reduced pot life for each epoxy pot.

It should be removed from the surface with a clean damp cloth. It is advisable to avoid permanent flooding and prolonged contact with moisture. You must therefore avoid wet carpets and towels on the floor or e.g. flower pots that spill water. Keep the surface free of stone or sand, which can leave scratches. Excess of grid and dust will scratch the surface. A doormat is advised to be used. Never use harsh detergents or descalers. Alkaline products such as ammonia, chlorine, bleach, the detergent will damage the protective top coat layer of the Microcement.

Microcement flooring price will vary based on the size of the floor, substrate condition, floor plan, colour, or additional design features. The price is offered per project only. Offering a price per square meter would be very misleading. As an indication, the standard grey shade installed on a good substrate will reach a microcement cost per square meter of £90 – £95 plus VAT; flooring price being subject to a minimum size of 100 m2.Smaller flooring areas will increase the flooring cost per square meter.
